Hands-on Literacy through Theater and Improv
As a language arts teacher, I know that teaching literacy sometimes feels like pulling teeth. However, I have found that even the most reading/writing-adverse students will engage, participate, and even laugh while reading and writing through the use of theater and improv. Teachers, like our students, often learn best by doing, so in this workshop, volunteers will participate in a variety of theater games that can be taken back and used with students. Then we will explore the "writing" process I use with my students to help them turn their ideas into full scripts without having to painstakingly put pen to paper. Worried about not having any theater experience? Don't worry! Neither do I. All you need is a willingness to have fun and be a little silly around students.
